Search intent
Definition
Search intent is the underlying goal behind a user's query (informational, navigational, transactional, or commercial investigation).
Plain English
It's what the person actually wants when they type or ask something. "Buy running shoes" and "best running shoes" have different intents.
Why it matters
- Matching intent is the single biggest factor in ranking and citation.
- AI systems evaluate whether content addresses the query's goal.
- Mismatched intent means your page won't be selected even if it's relevant.
