HTTPS
Definition
HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) encrypts the connection between a browser and a server using TLS, protecting data in transit.
Plain English
It's the padlock in the address bar. It means traffic between the user and your site is encrypted.
Why it matters
- HTTPS is a baseline ranking signal for search engines.
- Browsers warn users on non-HTTPS pages.
- Mixed content (HTTP resources on HTTPS pages) can break security.
